Why Is Data Integration Becoming Increasingly Important?
Many companies still operate with IT systems that are isolated from one another, leading to data silos and inefficient processes. In fact, the 2024 Lünendonk study shows that only 34.1% of projects were carried out using a consistent end-to-end approach. For the coming period, only a moderate increase to 37.3% is expected.

What Causes Poor Data Quality?
Poor data quality arises in isolated IT systems primarily because information has to be maintained multiple times and in different applications. This automatically results in duplicate and possibly contradictory or even outdated data records. Processes without automated and tested integration still require manual exports, usually in the form of Excel lists or copy-paste behaviour. This is a frequent source of errors that quickly renders data unreliable. Data silos are increasingly considered a strategic risk.
Another problem is that each application uses its own structures, formats and rules. Without a central plan, information from different systems quickly becomes incompatible, leading to inconsistencies. Synchronisation between IT systems also poses a risk: comparisons are often delayed or not carried out at all, resulting in discrepancies in orders, customer data or stock levels. A lack of monitoring and inconsistent governance exacerbate the problems. Errors are not detected and corrections are not made centrally.
