Reference: WestfalenTarif – Revenue Database (EDB)
WestfalenTarif is the fare and association service provider for public transport in Westphalia. Around 60 partner companies use the central Revenue Database (German: EinnahmenDatenBank, short: EDB) product for monthly recording and reporting of their revenues. The AM GmbH manages the EDB as a central platform for efficient data management, audit-proof reports, and reporting for internal and external stakeholders.

Achieving Success With The AM GmbH
At the start of the project, technical structures were made transparent and documented through systematic analysis and test-driven software archaeology. Since taking over support for the EDB application, the AM GmbH has ensured stable operation, including hosting, third-level support, and ongoing maintenance.
Our services in this project include:
- Operation and hosting in secure data centers with 24/7 monitoring
- third-level support for troubleshooting and incident management
- Continuous development and performance optimization
- Regular security updates for servers and applications
- Documentation and knowledge transfer to the customer
- Planning and implementation of an archiving concept

About WestfalenTarif
WestfalenTarif is the joint fare system for public transport in Westphalia-Lippe and comprises over 60 transport companies from various regions and fare zones.
The partners of WestfalenTarif (transport companies, revenue-entitled authorities) are provided with a uniform and transparent fare and ticket system that enables easy mobility in Westphalia-Lippe. WestfalenTarif coordinates fare cooperation, ensures smooth data exchange between partners, and thus contributes to efficient and sustainable traffic management.
The revenue database (EDB) is a central tool within WestfalenTarif. It enables transport companies to record, manage, and evaluate their revenue data in a structured manner.

The Success Story
Modernization Without Risk
The EDB application consists of a large number of different program components that have evolved over time, all of which we have taken over in their entirety. Building on our extensive experience with legacy systems and our approach to software archaeology, we have developed a modernization concept that respects these existing components and continues to run them in a stable manner.
Instead of a complete replacement with risk, we take a step-by-step approach: Older components are gradually replaced by more modern technologies without affecting ongoing operations. Continuous improvements and targeted refactoring are regularly rolled out during maintenance windows to ensure high availability and steadily increasing performance.
Security And Strategic Knowledge Management
When the EDB application was taken over, a comprehensive security analysis was carried out to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities. Building on this, we use consistent patch management and targeted security updates to ensure that both the server and the application remain protected against current threats.
We are also on the safe side in other areas: we guarantee transparent and complete documentation of all operating and development processes. At the same time, we are working with the customer to develop a forward-looking archiving concept that will ensure sustainable data management in the long term.
Fast Third-level Support And Incident Management
With dedicated third-level support, we take care of rapid troubleshooting and strategic incident management, tailored to the high demands of critical specialist procedures. Every malfunction is recorded, analyzed, and transparently documented for the customer via a structured ticket system.
Preventive maintenance and change management processes ensure that the EDB remains stable and performs well at all times, even during ongoing developments. Potential problems are identified and resolved at an early stage before they affect operations.
Reliability Around The Clock
We operate the EDB application in state-of-the-art, certified data centers with maximum reliability and a strong focus on sustainability. Through the use of redundant infrastructure, continuous power and climate control, 100% green electricity, and 24/7 personnel monitoring, we ensure consistently high availability with sustainable use of resources.
With state-of-the-art monitoring and proactive security measures, we ensure that the platform remains available around the clock. This is also confirmed by our ISO/IEC 27001 certification.
