Application Management: Ensuring Stable Application Operations And Targeted Further Development

Business-critical applications require more than just occasional maintenance. They must function reliably on a daily basis and continue to perform effectively even as new requirements arise.

With Application Management, the AM GmbH helps your company ensure stable application operations and targeted further development. Development and operations work hand in hand with reliable support. This creates clear lines of responsibility. Your company gains more capacity for IT projects, and your employees experience a noticeable reduction in workload.

When Day-to-Day Operations Slow Down IT

Many companies operate applications that are in daily use and, for that very reason, constantly demand attention. Systems must remain available, meet security requirements, and be adaptable to new processes. This takes up employees’ time that is then lacking elsewhere.

When day-to-day operations take up too much space, they slow down IT. Maintenance and minor adjustments crowd out strategic projects. Companies that manage applications in a structured way reclaim this capacity. Responsibilities are clearly defined, and operations and support run smoothly. Further development happens according to plan, not in between support cases.

Specifically, this means:

  • Business continuity instead of mere maintenance
  • Relief for your IT and development teams
  • Transparency in operations, support and costs
  • Controlled management of changes and releases
  • Compliance, data protection and security during ongoing operations

Why Companies Outsource Application Management

An external partner makes sense when applications are critical but require too much internal attention. Most often, the issue isn’t a single problem but a combination of day-to-day operations, support cases, changes and new requirements. This is precisely where it pays off for companies to outsource application management.

Business-critical applications

Some systems are so deeply integrated into business operations that any outage is immediately noticeable. For these business-critical applications in particular, operations must not be dependent on day-to-day business activities.

Here, we take responsibility for your day-to-day operations and ensure the reliability of your IT systems.

Limited Internal Resources

Managing operations, support and further development all at once only works up to a certain point. Eventually, internal resources become so scarce that priorities must be set.

Most often, ongoing applications end up taking a back seat. We take the pressure off you where capacity is lacking, without losing your internal expertise. For recurring support requests and application issues, our user helpdesk is the first point of contact.

Evolving System Landscapes

Interfaces that no one fully understands anymore, dependencies that have built up over the years, and undocumented quirks: system landscapes that have evolved over time are difficult to grasp and even harder to operate.

We restore structure to your IT environments and ensure that even legacy applications run reliably and can be further developed.

Strict Compliance Requirements

Anyone who operates applications must also ensure that they consistently meet applicable requirements. Strict compliance requirements demand clear processes and someone to implement them consistently.

We understand these requirements and operate your applications in a way that prevents them from becoming a compliance risk.

Lack of Cost Transparency

If you don’t know what it really costs to operate an application, you can neither budget effectively nor set priorities. A lack of cost transparency is a frequently underestimated problem in application management.

We provide clarity on your expenses and services so that nothing remains hidden and you can plan with confidence.

Application Management Throughout The Entire Lifecycle

For us, application management isn’t just a collection of isolated, individual services. We view applications across their entire lifecycle: from development through stable operation to ongoing support and targeted further development.

Build: Building Robust Applications

New applications must not only meet business requirements but also be capable of running smoothly later on. In the Build phase, we therefore consider operations from the very beginning during conception, architecture, development and technical implementation. This creates a technical foundation on which applications can be built to last.

This includes a scalable architecture, a user-centered design, and the appropriate API and interface capabilities. As a result, your application is not only developed but also implemented so that it is ready for operation from day one.

Run: Operating Applications Stably

During ongoing operations, the most important thing is that your applications function reliably and remain available for daily use. In the Run phase, we handle operations, hosting, and monitoring, and provide transparent insights into the status of your systems. This allows applications to run stably without your employees having to constantly make adjustments.

We keep a close eye on performance and availability. Clear lines of responsibility ensure that problems are identified early and that ongoing operations remain securely supported in a structured manner.

Maintain: Reliable Application Support

Business-critical applications require clear responsibilities and reliable support in day-to-day operations. In the Maintain area, we handle support, help desk services, incident management, maintenance, troubleshooting and documentation. This ensures that applications are reliably managed without any tasks remaining unresolved.

To this end, we establish clear support levels and designate a dedicated single point of contact. Issues are handled in a structured manner, maintenance is planned in a transparent way, and compliance, data protection, and security requirements are firmly integrated into our support services.

Evolve: Targeted Application Development

Requirements change, processes grow and existing systems must keep pace. In the Evolve division, we support your company with modernization, releases, changes, interfaces, and migration. This allows applications to be developed in a targeted manner without losing sight of day-to-day operations.

In the process, we gradually reduce technical debt and optimize interfaces and data flows. Further development is carried out in a planned manner during ongoing operations, ensuring the long-term viability of your applications.

Jointly Operating Applications betreiben

We can take over applications entirely or operate them jointly with your employees (co-managed model). This ensures that critical knowledge remains within your company. Your IT staff understand the business context. The AM GmbH supports you where you need relief in day-to-day operations such as in operations, support, documentation and monitoring of middleware integrations.

The result is not a "black box" but a collaborative partnership with defined responsibilities and clear points of contact. Responsibilities are allocated according to the situation, and processes are thoroughly documented. This allows you to relieve your employees of some of their workload without relinquishing control.

Case Study: Application Management In Practice

For Deutsche Telekom, we implemented MyWorkPlace, the central enterprise customer portal for cloud and infrastructure services. Through an integrated single sign-on, users gain access to more than 50 services. The portal connects various backend systems via a unified frontend and enables users to consistently find, order and manage services.

The project demonstrates how application management works in practice at the AM GmbH: as an interplay of product ownership, UX/UI design, modular architecture, application management and application support. This allows releases to be deployed faster, changes to be implemented in a controlled manner and the platform to be continuously developed without disrupting ongoing operations.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions About Application Management

The transfer of an existing application to the AM GmbH always begins with a structured onboarding phase. We analyze the application, document its current state, and clarify any open questions together with your employees. Only once the foundation is in place do we gradually assume operational responsibility without any disruption to operations.

With us, application management isn’t just available as a complete package. Companies can start with individual components, such as day-to-day operations or second-level support. The range of services can be expanded as needed. Getting started depends on what your company needs right now, not on a predefined model.

No company loses control through outsourcing application management. In the co-managed model, your employees remain involved and clear responsibilities and designated points of contact ensure transparency.

Data protection and compliance play a central role in application management from the very beginning. Security requirements, documentation and compliance guidelines are an integral part of the support model and are incorporated from the start.
